We have an update to bring you on the developing situation surrounding the future of Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.
Courtois has had plenty of time to commit his future to the club. He has just one-year remaining on his contract. History suggests that Chelsea would spring into action if the possibility emerged of one of our star players departing on a Bosman.
However, Courtois has forced us into a corner. If things don’t fall into place for the Belgian this summer, we may be at risk of losing him without receiving a penny in return.
According to the Mirror, Courtois wants to sign for Real Madrid this summer. He has already revealed that his family will play a big part in his decision over his future. They still live in Madrid from his time with Atletico.
There is a potential issue, though. Courtois isn’t Real Madrid’s top transfer target. As per the Mirror, Florentino Perez is looking to recruit AS Roma keeper Alisson Becker. That could leave Courtois stranded at Chelsea and forced to see out the final year of his contract.
There does not appear to be a solution to this situation which results in Courtois staying.
