Chelsea Legend urged Abramovich to complete 198 goals striker deal ahead of Manchester United

Chelsea legend Joe Cole has urged Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich to complete an ‘unbelievable’ January transfer deal for PSG striker Edinson Cavani.

Cavani is set to leave French champions PSG either this month or at the end of the season and has emerged as a target for Chelsea and their Premier League rivals Manchester United. The Uruguay legend, 32, has been one of the most prolific goalscorers in Europe over the past decade, scoring a staggering 198 goals in 292 appearances in France.

Frank Lampard is believed to be keen on welcoming Cavani to Stamford Bridge before the January transfer window closes and Cole says it would be an ‘unbelievable’ piece of business. ‘Chelsea only got the transfer ban lifted in December but I think Roman’s pockets might be burning a bit,’ former Chelsea and England midfielder Cole told BT Sport.

‘He will want to spend some money. But it’s important that you get the right players. Who’s available in January?

‘There’s talk of Cavani. I think if you can get him through the door that would be unbelievable.

‘If Frank takes this Chelsea team to fourth in his first opportunity in the Premier League then that’s an unbelievable job.

‘If you can get the right player, sure, but there’s no need to panic because the lads are doing great.’
