Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has reportedly decided to stay and fight for his place in Maurizio Sarri’s squad this term.
Giroud’s future was somewhat in doubt over the future following the return of Michy Batshuayi and Tammy Abraham.
We figured that Chelsea would only keep three strikers, and Giroud could be the most logical option. This is the last transfer window we’re likely to recoup a significant chunk of the fee we paid for him in January, with his contract expiring next summer.
Giroud remains, though, with Batshuayi joining Valencia on a season long loan. It looks as though the World Cup winner won’t be sealing a late summer move abroad, either.
According to the Mirror, he has decided to stay and fight for his place, which is commendable.
Giroud will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with any interested clubs when January comes around. We’ll have to wait and see if he chooses to exercise that option.
