Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool are among the elite European clubs interested in landing Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz, according to a report from Sport 1.
The report claims that Havertz’s next step in his professional career will come in June of 2020, with a total of eight European sides interested, the most notable Real Madrid and Barcelona.
The German star shone last campaign for the Bundesliga side, with the 23-year-old scoring 20 goals and registering seven assists across all competitions.
A number of EPL giants including Chelsea and Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich have all been connected with a move for him. If Frank Lampard’s side want to secure his signature, the club face a real battle to do so.
Bayer Leverkusen have recently lost key forward Julian Brandt to Borrusia Dortmund, so they will not to be willing to sell at a cheap price.
They’re said to be demanding £91m after seeing the money SL Benfica and Ajax generated this summer from the sales of Frenkie de Jong, Joao Felix and Matthijs de Ligt.
The German ace side will expect a bidding war between some of the biggest football teams in the world, so they’ll demand a high price for one of the hottest talents in Europe.
Chelsea will certainly already have an eye on possible targets ready for when their transfer embargo ends and it is easy to see why a player of Kai’s quality would be of interest to them.
They’ll need to qualify for the Top 4 if they want to stand any chance of sealing a deal, or there may simply be too many elite clubs standing in their way.
