Chelsea risk losing 8 players on free transfers, €175.3m of talent in final years of contracts

Chelsea could lose €175.3M worth of talent without receiving a penny in exchange next summer.

That may be a rather dramatised way to say that we have several first-team players heading into the final years of their contracts, but that’s the reality, we have lost much of our bargaining power at this point.

The list of players who have less than 12-months to run on their Chelsea contracts is as follows: Thibaut Courtois, Cesc Fabregas, David Luiz, Pedro, Olivier Giroud, Gary Cahill, Todd Kane, Willy Caballero.

Transfermarkt believe that the combined market value of all these players is €175.3M. That’s a hell of a lot of money to be missing out on, irrespective of the fact that six of these players are the wrong side of 30.

Chelsea ought to recognise the seriousness of the situation at hand and act fact. Either tie them down to contract extensions or shift them on and invest the funds raised elsewhere.
