Chelsea star who didn’t play once last season actually thinks he’s one of the best in the world – journalist

Journalist Simon Johnson has claimed that Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku still believes he is one of the best strikers in the world.

He told The Athletic’s Football Podcast that this is behind his reluctance to not accept a move to Saudi Arabia at this time.

It is almost certain at this stage that Lukaku will be on the move this summer after completely burning his bridges at Stamford Bridge.

While it may have looked like a transfer to Inter Milan seemed the most reasonable solution to take place after he spent the entire season on loan there, he somehow managed to destroy his relationships there too.

He did this by negotiating with Juventus over a potential deal, and that at this stage seems the most likely place for him to end up…

This would come in exchange for Dusan Vlahovic, although it is unclear at this point as to whether Mauricio Pochettino wants the striker as part of his side.

If Juventus didn’t happen, the next most likely landing spot would be a side in Saudi Arabia.

Johnson has claimed that the Belgium international is not keen on taking a step down in terms of standards though, as he still believes he has a lot to offer as one of the best in the world.

He said: “Chelsea’s owners have tried to give Lukaku a nudge towards Saudi but he has made it clear he is not ready for that move, he still regards himself as one of the best strikers in the world and has major ambitions.”

With supporters not seeing Lukaku play for their side last season, and also not really wanting to see him again, it is fair to say they may not agree with his point of view.
