Chelsea are reportedly eyeing a move for Lazio centre-back Francesco Acerbi as he continues to impress for the Serie A title-chasers this campaign.
Although things are currently on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic, Chelsea are holding on to the fourth spot in the PL table as they battle for UCL qualification next campaign.
Frank Lampard has given chances to several young footballers this campaign, and it has been rewarded to an extent, but he’ll perhaps be aware of the need to add experience this July to find a balance and ensure that his club can compete at the top level.
One of the areas in which Blues have perhaps looked a little weak is in back-line, as they’ve conceded 39 goals in their 29 league matches to date. That gives them the second-worst defensive record of the top 11 clubs in the standings, and so there is a need to shore things up at the defence to allow them to compete.
Blues are said to be interested in Francesco, who has been a pivotal figure for Lazio so far this campaign as they continue to try and topple Juventus in the Serie A title race.
There is an issue for Blues though, as the report adds that Inter Milan are also keen and so they could face contest from former manager Antonio Conte.
Acerbi has a wealth of experience having also previously played for Milan, but he’s arguably now enjoying the best form of his career thus far has helped the Eagles to win the Coppa Italia and Supercoppa over the past year.
