Chelsea are reportedly preparing to activate the release clause of Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak.
The time appears to have finally come where we will have to find a replacement for Thibaut Courtois. His future has been in doubt for some time now, but having seemingly gone AWOL in order to force a move, we’d be surprised to ever see him in a Chelsea shirt again.
Losing Courtois is no disaster. He is replaceable. The situation is incomparable to that of compatriot Eden Hazard. If he left, it’s a void that Chelsea would really struggle to fill.
The hunt for Courtois’ successor looks to already have begun. According to Mundo Deportivo, Atletico’s Oblak has been identified as the perfect replacement.
The Spanish publication go as far as claiming that Chelsea will activate his €100M release clause within the net 24 hours. That’d come as a huge surprise. We’re skeptical – for now!
