Chelsea want €40m defender as part of Romelu Lukaku deal
Chelsea are allegedly interested in signing Denzel Dumfries of Inter Milan and the Netherlands.
However, The Blues want Dumfries included in Romelu Lukaku’s proposed loan trade to Inter, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Nerazzurri value the Dutchman at at least €40 million, and they are willing to bargain under these terms.
After impressing for his country at the European Championships, the 26-year-old joined Inter from PSV Eindhoven last summer.
Dumfries scored a stunning late winner in the Netherlands’ first game against Ukraine before scoring again in a 2-0 win over Austria.
The defender has been a regular for his country in recent years, appearing in 22 international matches. Earlier this week, he also scored in a 4-1 Nations League win over Belgium.
Last season, Dumfries scored five goals in 45 appearances for Inter, but it appears that he will be sacrificed in order for Lukaku to return.
Chelsea are willing to sanction a loan move for the Belgian striker, who is desperate to leave the club following a poor season.
Inter want to team Lukaku up with Paolo Dybala, but they believe their chances of doing so are slim due to Chelsea’s financial demands.
The Blues’ interest in Dumfries, on the other hand, might pave the way for a good deal between the two clubs.
Lukaku made a great start to his second Chelsea term after completing one of the most significant Premier League signings last summer.
He was put on the back foot by fitness and health difficulties, and an ill-advised interview with Sky Italia about his dissatisfaction at Chelsea did little to endear him to manager Thomas Tuchel.
