There are certain players who are linked with a transfer so consistently that you start to believe there’s some truth to it.
However, Ben Chilwell has to fall into that category now. He’s had so many links to Chelsea in the last year it’s almost impossible to conclude they’re total fiction.
Now CaughtOffside have an exclusive interview with former Chelsea player Alan Hudson who confirms that Frank Lampard is a fan of the Leicester left back, and also explains exactly what it is that Lampard likes in the 23 year old.
“I know Frank likes Chilwell,” Hudson said.
“He’s a very good player and will be a great addition, a player who loves playing and getting forward, which is what Frank loves,” he went on to explain.
It’s clear that being able to play and having an attacking mentality is something Lampard values in his full backs – just look how quickly Reece James was pushed into the team once fit.
Marcos Alonso had some terrible games this season but the manager was never afraid to push him high up the pitch and use him like that.
If Chilwell fits the bill and does arrive as expected this summer, he should have a great opportunity to get forward and make chances. And if Frank’s two desires a left back who “plays” and is “attacking”, he’s found the right one
