Christopher Nkunku sends Chelsea fans into a frenzy with huge injury boost ahead Brentford clash

Christopher Nkunku has sent Chelsea supporters into a frenzy on social media after posting another injury update. The 25-year-old forward, who joined the Blues from RB Leipzig in the summer for around £52million, was dealt a hefty blow to his knee during a pre-season clash against Borussia Dortmund in the United States.

He has recently stepped up his rehabilitation, but it’s believed that Nkunku is still some way off from making his competitive debut for the club. This month, the France international has posted pictures of himself in the gym, in the swimming pool and undergoing various medical tests.

Nkunku even showed off some light ball work in between resistance training exercises. Now, the Frenchman has taken his recovery programme to the next level – for the very first time since the summer, he’s been spotted outside on the training pitches at Cobham in his Chelsea gear ahead of the upcoming Premier League clash against Brentford.

Nkunku and his teammates took time out of their days to meet and great some Blues fans. While the forward remains some way off making a full return to first-team action, his appearance on grass at the training base in Surrey evidences that he has taken a huge step forward on his road to recovery.

Chelsea supporters have been itching to see Nkunku finally make his competitive debut for the club and his post on social media brought smiles to a few faces. One user on X, formerly known as Twitter, by the handle @Hellfire_FT posted: “He might start getting few minutes after the next international break is what I think.”

“Wearing a head warmer as well. Was defo working outside,” @dabo_chels pointed out. Meanwhile, @Charles_Amicus posted: “Returning just in time when the season is about to become doggy. Get his blue balloons ready.”

In the summer, Pochettino revealed that he intends to partner Nicolas Jackson with Nkunku. In the Frenchman’s absence, the Chelsea boss has been forced to operate Carney Chukwuemeka, Cole Palmer and sometimes Conor Gallagher in the attacking midfield role.

“For sure we will arrive in the next few games at the possibility to play them together,” the 51-year-old told the club’s official website. “It is that the circumstance of the physical condition mean we need to use both to share the minutes.
