Christopher Nkunku sends strong message to Chelsea fans ahead of Middlesbrough clash

According to latest reports, Christopher Nkunku is eyeing a return to Chelsea training this week.

The 26-year-old has not trained with the Blues for about two weeks now, after sustaining a hip injury. The injury kept him out of Chelsea’s Cup engagements against Preston North End and Middlesbrough, as well as last weekend’s 1-0 Premier League win over Fulham.

During a press conference ahead of the game last Friday, Mauricio Pochettino said: “But I’m worried a little bit about the situation of Nkunku because still now I think it’s 10 days that he cannot train and we are assessing him.

“We don’t know what is going to happen. A little bit worried about the situation of Nkunku but I think it’s good news in another side [of the coin] that players like Chalobah, Chilwell, Badiashile and Chukwuemeka are so close to being involved again and to help the team to perform.”

Per the Evening Standard, Nkunku is confident he can resume training this week, and recover in time for Chelsea’s Carabao Cup semi-final return leg with Middlesborough next week.

The Frenchman has already scored a goal for Chelsea this season, and it came in the 2-1 loss to Wolves at the Molineux last December.

If he does become available to face Boro, the Blues would be given a major boost, seeing as they are already trailing the Championship side 1-0 from the first leg.
