Class! See how Thiago Silva respond to FA Cup final defeat, as Blues determined to agree deal for Atletico Madrid key man
Chelsea’s hope of winning a double this season was sent crashing after a very unlikely defeat against Leicester City in the FA Cup final over the weekend.
A stunning second half strike from Youri Tielemans put City in front, as VAR cancelled out a late Chelsea goal.
Chelsea defender Thiago Silva, who is also a leader in the Chelsea dressing room, has now issued a rallying call for his teammates to not get overwhelmed by the defeat as there’s still much to play for before the end of the season.
“Overcoming is necessary, moving forward is essential.” said Silva.
“Together, we will overcome the obstacles, improve whatever it takes and follow though with our goal as a team. ‘Let’s go Chelsea!!”
The veteran Brazilian is very correct. There’s a lot to play for before the end of the season; the top four battle will reach the final day of the season, and there’s also a massive Champions League final at hand. Surely, this isn’t the time for the team to collapse.
Blues determined to agree deal for Atletico Madrid key man
Chelsea are preparing to make another move for Atletico Madrid defensive rock Jose Gimenez, according to the reports.
Uruguay international defender has been on the radar of Chelsea for some time and it is expected to see him linked with a possible to Stamford Bridge when the transfer window will be re-opened in the summer.
According to reporter Fabrizio Romano, players release clause prevented Chelsea from luring him away from Wandametropolitano.
That is believed to be set at €120m. However, after starting just 12 games in La Liga due to the series of injuries his price tag could get lower and Chelsea planning to make an approach once again.
AS reported in September that Manchester City also tried to lure Gimenez in the Premier League in the summer, however, the deal has never materalised and the Citizens ended up signing Ruben Dias from Benfica.
Sport Witness reported that the Spanish club’s president, Enrique Cerezo, confirmed the bid when speaking on Onda Cero’s El Transistor programme.
He said: “Yes we received the offer [from City], but Gimenez is a magnificent player and we are interested in having magnificent players in our team.”
The Athletic insist Chelsea remain interested in the 26-year-old and planning to splash money for his signature.
