Andre Onana wants to leave Ajax in the summer and Chelsea is the goalkeeper’s No.1 choice, according to reports.
Kepa has been impressive since his mega money move to Chelsea just a few years ago, but over the past few weeks, the Blues fans have seen a dip in form from the young Spaniard and it has started causing cause for concern for boss Frank Lampard.
Lampard even dropped the young stopper for the big game against Leicester last weekend, leading many to believe that Lampard is now seeking to get rid of the young man and add a more experience ace to the side. And that has led to some speculation in the media which has suggested that Chelsea will start the summer of spending bu replacing Kepa, and making a big summer move for the impressive Onana.
Manchester United reportedly made an offer for Onana during the summer amid concerns about David de Gea’s long-term future at the club, but now the Daily Mail claim Onana has decided he wants leave Ajax and is eager to move to the Premier League with Chelsea in his sights. Reports have suggested that Barcelona, however, have held talks with Onana over a return to Spain, as the 23-year-old left the Catalan club to join Ajax’s youth ranks in 2016.
Onana was eventually promoted to Ajax’s first team and has made almost 200 appearances for the Dutch side.
There is no doubt that Kepa has the ability to be a world class stopper for the Chelsea and it has been strange to see him linked with a move away from the club, especially as he has been the clubs undisputed number one since he arrived.
If Chelsea are going to replace Kepa, then Onana would be a very good shout for the Blues as he has proven himself at the very highest level, on a weekly basis. But keeping him away from Barcelona will be tricky and the Chelsea will need to move quickly in order to complete a deal for the stopper.
