CONFIRMED: When injured Chilwell will be fit to play for Chelsea
Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell picked up an injury during England’s 2-0 defeat to Belgium on Sunday.
According to Telegraph reporter Matt Law, Chilwell was forced off due to a back spasm but the defender is hoping it’s not a major issue and that it was brought on by the amount of travelling he’s had to do over the last few weeks.
Chilwell is unlikely to be risked against Iceland on Wednesday evening, with the Three Lions already out of the Nations League but could be fit to face Newcastle United on Saturday.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard may be tempted to start with either Emerson Palmieri or Cesar Azpilicueta in Chilwell’s place at St James’ Park should the left-back fail to fully recover in time.
Asked about Chilwell’s injury after England’s defeat, Gareth Southgate said: “He had some sort of issue with his back that he was complaining about and he didn’t feel he could carry on.”
