Deal close. Chelsea reach agreement for highly-rated Real Madrid target

The pace of Chelsea’s negotiations with Chicago Fire goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina appears to have slowed recently.

However, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has informed that Chelsea and Chicago Fire have completed a deal for the teenage goalkeeper.

Romano wrote on social media: “Chelsea have reached verbal agreement with Chicago Fire for Gabriel Slonina, after direct talks between Todd Boehly and MLS club. 10m deal plus add-ons, he’d stay at Chicago on loan. #CFC

“Chelsea are expected to submit official bid this week in order to get the deal done.”

According to earlier estimates by Fabrizio Romano, the deal’s total value would be about $10 million plus add-on fees.

Real Madrid, who had been in the lead in the competition to sign the young American goalkeeper, was hijacked by Chelsea.

The goalkeeper, who was born in 2004, holds the distinction for being the MLS’s youngest goalkeeper ever.

Slonina has 15 MLS appearances under his belt and 7 shutouts. That young man is extremely amazing, by the way.

Following his acquisition, Chelsea extended Slonina’s season-long loan to Chicago Fire.

The 18-year-old is highly regarded and being groomed as a potential star.
