‘Do A Mourinho’! Chelsea boss Frank Lampard told to copy former Man United boss Mourinho

Arsenal legend Paul Merson has urged Frank Lampard to take a leaf out of Jose Mourinho’s book if he wants to be a success at Chelsea.

Lampard and Chelsea ended months of speculation during the summer transfer window as the club legend made the shock decision to take over his former club, despite only being in management at a top level for just one season.

He has come into Chelsea at a time when it is a massive transition for the club, as they were unable to sign any players, star players have left, or have been linked with moves away and he will have to use the younger players to help get through this season.

Chelsea have endured a mixed start to the new season, winning just one of their first four league matches and Arsenal legend Merson saidsaidsaid: ‘Winning games is a hard thing to do when you’ve lost your best player, and one of the best players in the world in Eden Hazard.

‘Frank is up against it. I think he’ll get patience, but at the moment, I think you don’t always have to entertain. Do a Mourinho!

‘You sometimes think in a job: ‘Oh, I have to keep entertaining here, otherwise the fans are going to get the hump!’

‘In the end, you don’t need to do that, you need to be clued up, take the three points.’

Right now Lampard needs to get the wins, to get some confidence around Stamford Bridge, especially as there are still many out there who believe that he is not the right man to lead the club into a new era.

He wants to play a certain way and entertain the fans, but Merson is right, he needs to start getting results as draws and losses will not keep him in a job and when he starts getting results, then he should put more effort into playing the kind of football he enjoys.

He has a tough job ahead of him and copying Mourinho is a good shout, at least for now.
