Rising Chelsea No.9 Tammy Abraham is not better than Victor Osimhen, according to Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick.
Abraham was eligible to represent Nigeria through his African parentage before he eventually became cap-tied to England, and having missed out on the services of the Blues academy graduate for the Super Eagles, Pinnick says that the 22-year-old isn’t better than Osimhen, who has enjoyed a prolific debut season at Lille in Ligue 1.
“When we have people like Dessers that was even selected among the Eredivisie Team of the Season, I think we are happy and we are home. A prolific goalscorer,” Pinnick told Plus TV Africa, as quoted by All Nigeria Soccer. “We have Osimhen who is doing very well, I cannot tell you that Tammy Abraham is better than Osimhen, it’s not possible.
“Let us watch and see the future of these players, we are happy and very contented with what we have right now, the only thing we need to do is consolidate and build a very strong Super Eagles that can contest for the qualifying rounds and World Cup proper, we have a very young team.”
Abraham, who has bagged 15 goals and 4 assists in all competitions this season so far for the Blues, made his international debut for England against the Czech Republic back in October before scoring his first senior goal in the Three Lions’ 7-0 rout of Montenegro in November.
While Abraham has carved out a name for himself in the Premier League this season, another striker of Nigerian heritage, Victor Osimhen, has enjoyed a similar fortune in his debut season at Lille in the French top-flight.
Osimhen netted 18 times in 36 appearances across all competitions for Lille, including 13 times in Ligue 1, following his switch from Belgian outfit Sporting Charleroi last summer before the coronavirus pandemic put a premature end to his promising breakthrough campaign. Interestingly, the 21-year-old has reportedly been linked with a move to Chelsea and Man United in recent months, with Lille rating the 8-cap Nigerian international at close to £60 million. Do you feel that Osimhen is really better than Tammy?
