Eight deals Chelsea are still working on as Blues eye summer transfer deadline day

The 2022 summer transfer window is almost over, but Chelsea’s final few hours promise to be incredibly hectic.

Todd Boehly, the new co-owner of Chelsea, has had a hectic first season in command at Stamford Bridge. The American has been actively involved in the Blues’ transfer-related activities while simultaneously serving as the club’s interim sports director.

Boehly has been pushed into the deep end for someone who has never worked in football before. Wesley Fofana, Marc Cucurella, Raheem Sterling, and Kalidou Koulibaly are the four new players that Chelsea has already spent a lot of money on and brought to Stamford Bridge.

We are all aware that anything can happen on deadline day, and Chelsea is expecting a lot to happen in the coming hours. In light of this, chelsea247 examines the eight transactions—both arriving and outgoing—that Chelsea hopes to finalize today.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang: Chelsea are still confident they can reach a deal to sign Aubameyang in the final hours of the transfer window. The Blues have floated the prospect of a two-year deal with the option of a further 12 months should the move be successful.

Aubameyang, though, who moved from Arsenal to Barcelona in January, wants three years guaranteed. The 33-year-old striker is very open to a move to Stamford Bridge, however, but the clubs still need to agree a fee for his services.

Anthony Gordon: Gordon wants the move to Stamford Bridge, but Everton are determined to keep hold of the 21-year-old attacker. Reports emerged on Tuesday that the Toffees wanted to tie the Liverpool-born attacker down to a new long-term contract at Goodison Park.

Frank Lampard has made no secret of his desire to keep hold of the talented Gordon. Thomas Tuchel, though, is understood to very keen on the idea of bringing the Everton forward to Chelsea and are expected to continue negotiations as the day progresses.

Ethan Ampadu: Ampadu, who spent last season on loan in Italy, has had plenty of interest from clubs abroad. The Wales international faces a big 2022 with the FIFA World Cup at the end of the year and wants first-team football.

With the arrival of Fofana, Ampadu does not appear to be part of Tuchel’s immediate plans. Chelsea are open to loaning the Welshman out and a deal could be completed at some point today – with Spezia said to be close.

Marcos Alonso: Alonso wants to leave Chelsea and the club want to offload the Spanish left-back. Barcelona are very interested in the 31-year-old defender and are confident they can get a deal to sign him done in time.

Billy Gilmour: Brighton are interested in signing the Scotland international, but Chelsea do not want to sell the young midfielder. The Blues are, however, open to loaning him out once again with a number of midfielders above him in the pecking order.

Kenedy: It’s clear Kenedy has no future at Chelsea and the club are on the lookout for any potential suitors. With Chelsea being so ruthless and terminating Ross Barkley’s contract recently, could we see another case of this with the Brazilian?

Hakim Ziyech: Ziyech wants to leave Chelsea before tonight’s deadline. Ajax are really interested in re-signing the Moroccan after they sold Antony to Manchester United earlier in the week.

Michy Batshuayi: Similarly to the aforementioned Kenedy, Batshuayi has no future at Chelsea. The Belgian striker has less than 12 months remaining on his contract and Chelsea will be hoping they can offload him before the deadline.
