Expert analysis the fluke goal that caught Mendy unaware in Arsenal defeat
Chelsea were beaten 3-1 by Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday evening, as the Blues fell to two first half goals from Alexandre Lacazette and Granit Xhaka before a second half goal from Bukayo Saka sealed the deal for the home side.
Saka’s goal was the most unexpected of all goals as the 19-year-old’s attempted cross hit the post and enter the net, much to the surprise of Edouard Mendy who was believed to be out of position.
Mendy have been blamed for being out of position for the goal, but former Aberdeen goalkeeper David Preece, a goalkeeping coach and expert, does not think it’s a fair reflection of what’s happened, as he insisted that it was a mistake goal.
“Goalkeeper is lost” to describe Mendy’s part in that goal is so negative. He wasn’t in a bad position to face the strike and was helpless in the end.
