FA charged Vincent Kompany after what he did against Chelsea
Burnley boss Vincent Kompany has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association following his side’s 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge
Burnley manager Vincent Kompany has been charged by the Football Association (FA) following the 2-2 draw with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
The match got really heated when the referee, Darren England, awarded Chelsea a penalty before half-time after Lorenz Assignon was deemed to have fouled Mykhailo Mudryk. Assignon was also shown a second yellow card, with Burnley reduced to 10 men for the remainder of the game.
Kompany did not hide his feelings at the decision and argued with the fourth official and was sent to the stands for his protests. Later, he said that he thinks the performances of the referees have to improve.
“I’ll keep saying what I think,” Kompany said after the match. “I’m not shying away from it and I’ve said it to the referees themselves, the officials, refereeing hasn’t been good enough this season.
“And I have said that in, I think, a constructive way, understanding as well the fact it’s not easy for them. The scrutiny is massive, the pressure is bigger than it’s ever been on the officials.
“I think the addition of VAR and more opinions and more officials doesn’t make it easy for them to do their jobs. I haven’t got any issues with being fined. I just want it to be right.”
On Wednesday, the FA confirmed that they have charged Kompany due to his behaviour during the game. A statement said: “It is alleged that the manager’s language and/or behaviour around the 40th minute was improper and/or abusive and/or insulting towards a match official and/or questioned their integrity.”
Kompany has until 5pm on Friday, April 5, to respond to the charge.
Chelsea were unable to make the extra man count during the remainder of the game, despite taking the lead twice. A penalty form Cole Palmer put them 1-0 up just before half time, but Josh Cullen equalised just after the break.
Palmer was again on the scoresheet in the 78th minute. But that lead lasted three minutes before Dara O’Shea found another equaliser for the Clarets.
