Fabrizio Romano: Todd Boehly to make this one major appointment in coming months at Chelsea
A new sporting director will apparently be chosen by the new Chelsea owner Todd Boehly in the upcoming months, according to a report today.
Fabrizio Romano, a transfer analyst, revealed some names in his exclusive Substack newsletter today, stating that Boehly aims to appoint a sporting director very soon.
Romano thinks he can see why Chelsea supporters are upset right now since Boehly seems to be taking on more than he can manage right now while also receiving very little assistance on the field. The scenario is far from ideal during what is a crucial transfer window for the club, and Thomas Tuchel has had to handle a lot of the work on transfers by himself.
Romano said that although others like Michael Edwards have already been contacted, he wanted to take a break at this time. Maxwell is among the other names on the list, but no decisions have been made as of yet.
It’s a delicate matter that needs to be resolved, and in retrospect, it should have been the first thing the new owners did after taking over. Right now, they could really use the assistance of a football expert.
“I can understand Blues fans feeling frustrated at the moment after being beaten to Raphinha by Barcelona, and history now looking like repeating itself with Jules Kounde,” Romano explains.
“It’s certain that Todd Boehly will appoint a new sporting director in the coming months – Chelsea will need a board that will take care of the transfers. Michael Edwards was approached after his departure from Liverpool, but he took his time because he wanted a break. Maxwell is another name on Boehly’s list but there are no advanced decisions yet as Chelsea are now busy on new signings.
