‘Fight Putin and not Chelsea’ – Journalist sends bold message to UK government
According to latest reports, Opposition fans and pundits have been on a witch-hunt for Chelsea FC with ex Liverpool striker Stan Collymore saying that Chelsea should be stripped of every title won under Roman Abramovich.
One could wonder if they are actually against Russia president Vladimir Putin or have thoughts about Ukraine or are just blindly after Chelsea FC for no just cause.
Like Ken Bates have asked – how will the war against Chelsea be of help to Ukraine or stop Putin’s missiles?
Meanwhile, talkSPORT host Adrian Durham who was at Stamford Bridge on Sunday has urged people not to forget the brilliant work that people at the club do.
Durham has asked for the fight to be on Putin and not Chelsea FC.
Durham said: “Welcome to Stamford Bridge where the shop is closed, people who rely on a match day income from Chelsea are not working today and there are not programmes on sale,”
“It’s Chelsea vs Newcastle. If you’ve seen the newspapers this morning, you will see this game is being called the ‘game of shame’.
“Owners approved and endorsed by the Premier League. Once the Premier League said they were acceptable, that was the green light for fans to sing their name, to show their gratitude to their name.
“In football terms, in his time here, Roman Abramovich has paid for 21 trophies and the status of European, Premier League and world champions.
“He said he was a good owner, so there’s no wonder the fans loved him.
“But let’s not forget, Chelsea Football Club is bigger than one man. They were here before Roman and will be here long after him.
“So I was amazed to read things this week that Chelsea should be relegated, the trophies should have an asterisk next to them or should be wiped from their record or the worst article of them all claiming Thomas Tuchel is the only good thing about Chelsea.
“This club has many good people working here, do great things in the community. Some of the words I’ve been reading in recent days have shown nothing but disrespect to good people at Chelsea FC.
“I understand why journalists and observers want to go after Roman Abramovich, but don’t generate hate against good people.
“Ex-player Paul Cannoville’s work with the homeless and community. Chelsea’s admirable work in trying to eradicate anti-semitism, Emma Hayes’ wonderful pioneering work on women’s football, the brilliant academy work helping young boys achieve their goal of becoming professional footballers.
“Who knows what will happen? The club could be forced to sell players to survive, it may well have serious to heavy financial difficulties ahead. They may never return to the top of the game, who knows?
“Right now, the focus should be on Putin and Abramovich and not the many, many good people at Chelsea football club and not those who have been part of the success in the years when the Premier League said they were comfortable with Abramovich being owner of Chelsea.”
