FINALLY: Lampard reveals why he keeps Marcos Alonso out of the squad

Frank Lampard has stated that Marcos Alonso has not featured for almost a month due to the manager’s decision and not because of an injury.

“I have selection choices in different positions. We need a squad,” Lampard said at a press conference ahead of the Aston Villa game as quoted by The Sun.

“Some players will be disappointed. But we need everyone.”

Have Marcos’ best times at Chelsea ended?

It’s not good news for the Spaniard who has not been playing since November 5 when he was subbed off during the Champions League showdown with Ajax.

After that, Alonso has not been included in the team squad for a single match and didn’t even make a trip to Valencia for another game in the UCL.

In any case, a month-long absence does not bode well for Alonso who seemed irreplaceable only a couple of months ago when he was the only player to start in each of seven consecutive wins for the Blues.
