Frank Lampard to drop Cesar Azpilicueta for Chelsea youngster Reece James

Frank Lampard plans to axe Cesar Azpilicueta from his starting eleven once Reece James recovers from injury, according to reports.

Chelsea are yet to really get going under Lampard, with the Blues manager sticking to his vision of a side filled with young stars.

Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount are starters under Lampard at the expense of the likes of Olivier Giroud and Willian, and club captain Azpilicueta is set to be the next senior star to drop to the bench.

The Daily Star claim Lampard will drop Azpilicueta once 19-year-old James is fit to play.

James is currently sidelined with an ankle injury (Picture: Getty) James, who is yet to make his debut for Chelsea, is recovering from ankle injury, but is set to go straight into Lampard’s side once he is available for selection.

Azpilicueta currently holds Chelsea’s right-back position and has won six major trophies with the Blues since joining 2012.

The 30-year-old has not missed a minute for Chelsea so far this season, but like the rest of his teammates, has faced criticism for his displays.

Lampard wants James to go straight into his side Chelsea have won just one game in four Premier League matches this season and squandered a two-goal lead against promoted side Sheffield United in their most recent game.
