Frank Lampard set to return to Premier League, as Tuchel wants to ‘reunion’ with world class £60m midfielder at Chelsea
According to The Telegraph via Daily Mail, Frank Lampard could be set for a Premier League return with Crystal Palace interested in the former Chelsea boss.
Lampard was sacked by Chelsea in January after a poor run of form saw Chelsea drop to 9th in the Premier League and in danger of missing out on a top four finish.
Roy Hodgson’s contract at Crystal Palace will expire this summer and Crystal Palace want Lampard to replace the 73 year old.
Should Lampard accept the Crystal Palace job, he will be backed in the transfer market with a £50million transfer budget.
Moreover, Lampard’s contacts at Chelsea could open the door to loan moves for Chelsea’s talented starlets, having nurtured the likes of Billy Gilmour during his time at Stamford Bridge, while Tammy Abraham’s future is up in the air.
Eddie Howe and Sean Dyche have also been linked with the Palace job, but Lampard is the favourite for the job.
Tuchel wants to ‘reunion’ with world class £60m midfielder at Chelsea
Thomas Tuchel reportedly wants a reunion with PSG midfielder Marco Verratti during the summer transfer window
Now look, we all know that Chelsea have one of the very best squads in the Premier League and Europe and they could actually end the season inside that top four, Champions League and FA Cup winners, if things go to plan.
But Tuchel is no fool and he knows that he needs to add a bit more quality to that midfield area, especially in the centre of the pitch and add a midfielder to the squad that can add a few more goals to the attack.
And the Chelsea manager wants to sign Marco Verratti from former club PSG this summer, according to 90min.
The Italian midfielder has made more than 350 appearances for the Ligue 1 champions since 2012, including two and a half years under the management of Tuchel, and the report claims he is a big fan of Verratti, and would reportedly like to be reunited with him again at Stamford Bridge.
However, PSG have him tied down to a massive contract and have no need to let him leave the club in the transfer window, even for silly money. Meaning that Chelsea will have a battle on their hands to get a deal done.
Roundup…
Chelsea have alot of quality in that squad, there is no doubt about that. But to sends a real message to Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, they need to sign players like Verratti, who is one of the very best in the game.
It is very unlikely that he will want to leave PSG, that they will want to sell, so he will probably not sign for Chelsea. But if they did, he would bring that sparkle in the centre of midfield that Chelsea are lacking right now
