German defender to Chelsea?, Roman Abramovich ready to spend big on 27-year-old star, as Lampard finally speaks on his Chelsea sacking..in Chelsea247 roundup news
Chelsea in pole position to sign 32-year-old German defender
Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich will allegedly let Chelsea transfer target Jerome Boateng leave the club on a free transfer in the summer.
The 32-year-old German star, who has been linked with a transfer to the Blues and their city rivals, will see his current deal expire at the end of this season.
According to German outlet Kicker, Bayern have told Jerome that he can quit the club in June, with no new deal set to be offered.
Jerome was on the shortlist of the west London heavyweights last year. The Blues opted to land Thiago Silva to bolster their defensive options but Chelsea retain an interest in the experienced defender.
The defender has been a key player for Hansi Flick’s side this season, making 30 appearances across all competitions for the German outfit, who have charged to the top of the Bundesliga standings and have also reached the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich ready to spend big on prolific 27-year-old star
According to transfer news from Mirror, Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is willing to spend big in order to bring back Romelu Lukaku. The former Blues striker is seen as a viable alternative to Erling Haaland as the Blues look to add to their attack.
Lukaku has been in sensational form for Inter Milan since joining them in 2019. He is leading their title charge this season with his goals. The Belgian has formed a deadly partnership with fellow striker Lautaro Martinez. The Belgian striker is no stranger to Chelsea given he spent three years at the club.
However, he couldn’t score even once. He spent the second and third years out on loan before leaving permanently for Everton. Lukaku then moved to Manchester United in 2017 and despite decent numbers, he was let go to Inter, where he has resurrected his career. He has scored at a fantastic pace there, with 61 goals in 87 appearances.
The Blues have had their problems with forwards in recent seasons, with no striker seemingly being able to nail down a starting berth. Hence, Roman Abramovich is set to sanction at least £86m for the Belgian striker and bring him back to the club.
There is no doubt that Chelsea somewhat regret letting go of the striker in 2014 and then seeing him flourish. Lukaku has honed his skills in the last few years and is a lethal striker for both club and country. Abramovich is making the right decision in going after the former player.
Lampard finally speaks on his sacking as Chelsea manager
Former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard was sacked from his job in charge of the club back in January.
The Blues legend lasted 18 months in charge of the club before he was unceremoniously sacked after a run of 5 defeats in 8 league games.
Lampard has finally spoken up for the first time since his sacking, and the Blues legend has no hatred for his former employees. Rather he has revealed how much he loves the club and spoke highly of his time there.
“I’m absolutely appreciative of the opportunity I had to manage Chelsea,” he said in the exclusive Q&A in aid of the Willow Foundation.
“It was an incredible time. Everyone knows how I felt about the club.”
Lampard achieved a fair amount of success in his first season, as he guided Chelsea to a top four finish. He went on to admit that the absence of fans from the stadium took the edge away from games.
He added: “From the restart onwards, to the time I left, to not have fans… I absolutely missed them.
“I knew as a player what it meant to me and I knew the effect it has on games. It all felt like the edge was taken off.”
