Giroud makes final Chelsea’s transfer decision despite new contract, as Blues to make £100m move for La Liga winner

Olivier Giroud has hinted he could still join AC Milan in the summer transfer window despite Chelsea extending his contract.

“I want to make it clear that Chelsea reactivated the clause in April and they recently announced it to comply with Premier League rules,” he said on Sunday when asked whether the extension had affected his desire to leave Chelsea.

“It’s fair to remember that I liked [Milan legends] Marco van Basten and Andriy Shevchenko.

“Milan are a big club and one of the great teams in Europe. But, today, I will not talk about my future at the club because I am focused on the France team and the Euros, which is fast approaching.”

Chelsea are said to be ‘eyeing a move’ for Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez with Tuchel looking to boost his options in midfield before the new season.

Having just won that Champions League title, Tuchel knows that he will still need to delve into that transfer kitty in the summer window and add a few fresh faces to the squad.

Manchester City will be looking to revamp the squad, Liverpool have already started spending their money and Manchester United will also look to spend some cash, meaning that next season will be a serious battle.

And that has led to reports in the media that Tuchel wants to add another midfielder to the squad, with reports from Spain now claiming that they are ready to make a move for the impressive Niguez.

Having also been linked to Liverpool, the Spain international won the title under Diego Simeone this season and could now eye a fresh challenge in England, with the Premier League seen as the best in world football

Spanish outlet AS report that PSG are also in the race for his signature, despite the 26-year-old being under contract until the summer of 2026 in Madrid

There are lots of players being linked with the club ahead of that transfer window, but Niguez is a special kind of player that would be a fantastic addition to the Premier League.

He would cost around £100 million to acquire, but if Tuchel wanted to send a statement to the rest of the Premier League, the signing of Niguez would really do that
