Chelsea confirmed the signing of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig on thursday morning, after news broke out earlier this month that the Blues have triggered his release clause.

Werner has proven to be a top striker for Leipzig over the years, and has bagged 93 goals and 40 assists in 153 appearances for Leipzig in just four years, that made him one of the most sought-after forwards in Europe.

Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has reacted to the news of Werner’s signing with optimism by admitting that his signing will serve as a source of motivation to the strikers at the club.

“He is going to be a very good signing and more motivation for strikers,” Giroud told The Guardian.

“We have a very competitive team, with a good alchemy between the youngsters and experienced players,” he added.

“We expect new signings because it’s been two transfer windows but I have a lot of expectation about this squad.”
