Good news as next Chelsea owner set to sign this first Chelsea contract on Friday ahead of takeover
According to sources, Todd Boehly is set to sign the first Chelsea contract on Friday as the club looks to complete a takeover.
After being designated the preferred bidder by Chelsea and Raine, Boehly has taken advantage of the exclusivity period to complete the £4 billion transaction.
The Premier League Owners’ and Directors’ Test has been completed, and exiting owner Roman Abramovich has stated through a spokeswoman that the Government will freeze the £1.6 billion debt following the sale to enable for a takeover.
And it’s about to happen. Chelsea management are ready to publicly name Boehly’s group to Government ministers in their request for an amended licence for a sale, according to the Telegraph, in order to finalize the buyout by May 31.
On Friday, Boehly is expected to sign the first contract in the process of finalizing and formalizing the Blues’ acquisition.
Chelsea believe that by signing the purchase deal, the financing agreement with the government would be resolved swiftly. However, it has been claimed that this has been agreed upon, thus an agreement should not be delayed.
The deal will usher in a new era, more than two months after Roman Abramovich put the club up for sale on March 2.
The Telegraph reports that the extra £500 million was added to the asking price, which Abramovich rejects, and that the negotiations were ‘primarily focused on future commitments for club spending.’
This will be welcome news to Thomas Tuchel, who will be hoping for support this summer as they prepare to contend for the Premier League crown next season.
It’s almost completed. Not quite yet, but close. The ownership structure is shifting. After 19 years, the Roman Abramovich era is coming to an end. It is the beginning of the end.
