A number of sportsmen have come together to help in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic that has shut down many social and economic activities across the world.
The official Chelsea website has confirmed that the Chelsea players have made a sizeable donation to help the community at a time like this.
Chelsea released in a statement, thus: “The Chelsea FC men’s squad have made a sizeable donation to the Chelsea Foundation to help support those in need during the current COVID-19 crisis.
“With many people facing uncertainty due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Foundation – through the generosity of the players – will work with a number of charities to support the most vulnerable within our community.”
It continued: “The donation follows the news that the Millennium Hotel at Stamford Bridge is available for NHS staff during the pandemic.
“The Chelsea Foundation is also committed to supporting our participants – of all ages – while they remain at home. Online education programmes have been launched while coaches are working on a series of challenges for children to try at home.”
Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta said of the donation: “In these difficult times it is important we support those in need and together the players are proud to be able to do this through the Chelsea Foundation.”
