2012 Champions League winners Chelsea have been handed a big boost on the injury front after midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek returned to training earlier than expected.

His injury status was revealed by the Blues’ assistant manager Gianfranco Zola who was surprised by how early the Three Lions of England international has returned to training following a problem with his back.

The Chelsea talked about Ruben Loftus-Cheek during his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon ahead of the FA Cup fourth round clash with English Championship club Sheffield Wednesday scheduled to take place on Monday night.

Loftus-Cheek was absent on Thursday night as Chelsea booked a Carabao Cup final meeting with defending champions Manchester City at the expense of Tottenham Hotspur.

Chelsea defender David Luiz scored the winning penalty to give the Blues a 4-2 victory over their London rivals during the shootut.

Both sides had played a 2-2 draw over two legs after the Blues’ 2-1 win over Spurs in their second leg semifinal meeting at Stamford Bridge.

N’Golo Kante and Eden Hazard scored either side of the halftime interval to give Chelsea a 2-0 lead thereby overturning the 1-0 Spurs win in the first leg.

Fernando Llorente pulled one back for Tottenham to take proceedings to penalties.
