Chelsea and Ajax have moved to confirm the transfer of Ajax star Hakim Ziyech to Stamford Bridge for a fee of £38m.
The Blues were unable to make any signings during the January transfer window and have made step to strengthen the squad ahead of next season.
Ziyech has been the creative lynchpin for Ajax over the past seasons, and Football.London writer Greg Johnson believes that the 26-year-old Moroccan can fill the void left by departed stars Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas.
Indeed, Chelsea have struggled to be creative since the exit of the duo, and next season is already looking exciting for the Blues.
Johnson wrote in his article: “Chelsea have lacked a distinct creator since losing Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard, and that has left them to come up short against opponents happy to sit back and stay tight as the Blues failed to break them down.
“Ziyech scores goals, sets up assists, takes set pieces and drives forward with the ball to take on defenders, and is also adept at upping the tempo in possession to expose defences and pick the holes as they appear.”
Ziyech stats are incredible, and if he can bring that rich vein of form to Stamford Bridge, then we’d be in for a treat.
