The Morocco international winger will join the Premier League giants in the summer and become Frank Lampard ’s first signing after a €44 million fee was agreed with the Dutch club.

A calf injury had ruled the 26-year-old out of action for the last three weeks but Ziyech made his return during Ajax’s 3-0 win over Vitesse last night.

Confirmation of his impending transfer arrived less than 24 hours later and although Ziyech is delighted to be making the move to England, he hopes to ‘create a few more memories’ before his time in Amsterdam is over. ‘Happy to be fit again so I can enjoy these last months on the pitch, where I belong,’ he wrote on Instagram.

‘Received a lot of warm and positive messages during my absence and I hope to create just a few more beautiful memories than we already have. ‘Very happy with my next step, but first I have some unfinished business to handle.’

A host of Europe’s leading clubs have scouted Ziyech over the course of his career and Dutch legend Rafael van der Vaart believes Chelsea have made a superb acquisition.

‘I believe Frank Lampard proved so far he understands creative players and understands entertaining yet effective football,’ he said. ‘Therefore I do see a good match between player and club and coach.
