‘He made Chelsea looks terrible’ – Alan Shearer blames Chelsea star for 4-1 defeat to Newcastle

Alan Shearer looks happy, after his former team, Newcastle United beat Chelsea 4-1 at St. James Park on Saturday.

However, The Magpies scored through Alexander Isak, Jamaal Lascelles, Joelinton and Anthony Gordon to move to sixth on the table, while Chelsea are now down to 11th, despite Raheem Sterling’s first-half free kick goal.

Reece James, who was making his third start for Chelsea, also saw a red card in the 73rd minute after pulling back Gordon during a Newcastle attack.

The Chelsea captain wasn’t exactly at his best against a side he scored twice against two years ago, and now, Shearer has criticised him for his poor performance in the defeat.

Shearer told BBC Radio 5 Live: “Chelsea were terrible in the second half.

“They were made to look terrible by Newcastle, who put them under pressure.

“Kieran Trippier played really well, Reece James didn’t. Anthony Gordon gave him a really tough time and he got frustrated.

“Gordon seems to be really enjoying his time at Newcastle. A bit of frustration from James and he got sent off.”
