‘He said no’- Aston Villa boss reveals what he told Lukaku after scoring 2 goals against him
Romelu Lukaku is back and he isn’t taking it easy this time around.
The Belgian scored a brace against Aston Villa to take his tally to three for the season, and Villa boss Dean Smith admitted after the game that he didn’t want his side to face the Belgian.
Speaking after the game, Smith said: “He [Lukaku] was clinical. I just said couldn’t you have kept that thigh injury a little bit longer but, unfortunately, he said no and he said he was itching to play.”
Meanwhile Liverpool legend Graeme Sounness has hailed the quality of Lukaku and has claimed Chelsea will be dangerous as long as the Belgian is fit.
“If they keep Lukaku fit, he’ll be the key man,” Souness said. He is a go-getter. When you have someone who can help you achieve your objectives out of nowhere… Chelsea, in my opinion, is a highly dangerous team if they can keep their key players fit. Lukaku is one of the major players.
“He’s a team player in every sense of the word. He’s matured during his time in Italy. He’s realized that the only thing that matters is what the team does. He’s close to being a complete striker. He isn’t particularly gifted in any area, yet he excels in all of them.
“He’s an adult now. He’ll be filled with pride because he has unfinished business at Stamford Bridge.
“Perhaps he feels compelled to prove a point to some Chelsea skeptics. He’s the difference between a close call and a title.”
