“He was shocked at being benched” – Chelsea keeper vows to fight for his place

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard took the surprising decision to drop the club’s record signing Kepa Arrizabalaga on the weekend and replace him with 38-year old veteran goalkeeper Willy Caballero.

It comes off the back of Kepa struggling for form this season and making a number of key errors in the sticks.

It has also sparked reports that Lampard has become unhappy with Kepa and is not confident of him being Chelsea’s number one for the long term.

However, as reported by The Sun, Kepa has vowed to fight for his future at Stamford Bridge and is ready to fight for his place.

The report states that a source close to Kepa confirmed that the Spanish international was shocked that he was benched for the Leicester City match at the weekend, saying:

“He was shocked at being benched but is determined to fight for his future.”

He is concerned about losing his place as the Spain’s number one for the upcoming European Championships this summer, and wants to keep his regular spot as the Chelsea number one to prove his worth.
