Reports claim, Thiago Silva is already on his way to London for his medical at Chelsea on Thursday ahead of signing a two-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have looked vulnerable in defence throughout the campaign, and have shipped 54 Premier League goals in total, more than any other club in the top 10, meaning that they will need to add a leader that is ready to help add some world class quality to that back line.
And that led to shock reports in the media that Chelsea were in advanced talks to try and bring Thiago Silva to the Premier League, and help the Brazilian fulfil his dream of playing in the Premier League.
After a few successful seasons with PSG, Silva is now on the transfer market after failing to agree a new contract with the French giants, meaning that anyone that matched his high wages were free to try and get a deal done.
But according to Sky Sports, he has decided to press on with pursuing a new challenge in West London with Chelsea and is expected to arrive for his medical at the Bridge on Thursday, with an announcement set to follow very quickly after.
There are still issues to be ironed out, however, and there are other clubs interested in the player, but this is a story that is very interesting as Silva would bring some leadership to that back-line.
Yes he is getting on in age and yes he is not the same player he was a few years ago, but he is still performing at a very high standard, and his arrival to the club could help the development of the younger players who need to learn how to be a top defender.
He is a short-term fix for Lampard, but is a player that should bring some quality to a back-line that is lacking in world class quality.
