The Premier League has made an important decision to indefinitely suspend the Premier League until April 30, as Covid-19 outbreak has affected almost all walks of life.
Chelsea players, including those who are recovering from injuries, are in self-isolation following the news that Blues youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi tested positive to coronavirus.
Fitness experts have revealed that the recent epidemic will cause even top athletes to lose form and fitness over time, as we’re set for a long break from football.
“Fitness levels will be seriously hampered and it’s a serious issue. It’s somewhat of a utopia to think that players or other elite athletes preparing ahead of the Tokyo Olympics will be in top form when activity resumes,” Jesus Paredes, one of Spain’s elite fitness experts told Diario AS.
“Every professional knows that working towards dates, events or big games serves as a motivational exercise and goal, but at present, there’s none of that.” Former Real Madrid fitness coach Alberto Giraldez agrees with his colleague as he said:
“Every club will see a reduction in each player’s level of fitness. “Certain clubs will deal with this strange situation better than others and the work of every fitness coach is key in handling each player’s level.
“Being in a quarantine environment affects everything and it’s vital that all players maintain a constant level of training because not to see a drop off in this daily physical stimulus is vital for the athletes’ body. it’s quite easy to lose all prior work.”
However, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has ensured his players remain fit by delivering mobile gyms to the players.
