Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth €64m. The 20-year-old will be loaned back to the German side until the end of the season.
Pulisic moved to Dortmund as a teenager and has developed to become one of the key players in the Bundesliga side. The USA international had earlier admitted his interest in moving to the Premier League and refused to sign a contract extension with Dortmund.
Dortmund director Michael Zorc revealed that the club had to accept the lucrative bid from Chelsea. He also insisted that the transfer was in accordance with the forward’s wish to play in England.
It was always Christian’s dream to play in the Premier League.
“That certainly has to do with his American background, and as a result we were unable to extend his contract. Against this background, we have decided to accept an extremely lucrative bid by Chelsea, given the low contract maturity.”
Pulisic also spoke to Chelsea’s website after the transfer and revealed his delight in joining a legendary club.
“It was a privilege to have signed for such a legendary club and I look forward to working hard towards being a contributor to their team of world-class players.”
