Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino was desperate to keep Mason Mount at the club and hoped he would change his mind on leaving once he made it clear that he was part of his plans.

This is According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via Metro.

Mount appeared a perfect fit for the high-energy football that Pochettino is associated with, and the Argentine is said to be a huge admirer of the England international.

However, Mount was reluctant to stay at Chelsea following the club’s refusal to hand him a significant wage increase during contract negotiations.

Mount was aggrieved that players around him – as well as a host of new signings – were instantly handed higher salaries.

Mount have now joined Manchester United with the England international to earn as much as £300,000-a-week on a five-year contract with the option of a sixth year.
