‘Ideal’: Chelsea could try to sign player Tottenham sold for just £12m this month – journalist confirms

Journalist Alex Crook has now tipped Chelsea to make a move to sign one full-back they have considered bringing in before.

He told GiveMeSport he can see the Blues making a move to bring in Kyle Walker-Peters from Championship side Southampton.

The Blues have previously been interested in a deal to sign Walker-Peters when the Saints were still a Premier League side.

However, they looked a different way in the transfer market at the time, and he remained with the Championship outfit despite interest from a number of sides.

He was formally a member of the Tottenham side, however former Blue Jose Mourinho sold him at the time for just £12m.

Crook has now claimed that Chelsea could look at injury problems in their own squad could see them enter the race for Walker-Peters.

Chelsea could go for Walker-Peters

He said: “When it comes to Walker-Peters, there is no sign of him signing a new contract. I think they thought there would be more Premier League interest than there was in the summer. They didn’t get a single bid.

“I mentioned West Ham being interested a few weeks ago because they are definitely looking for right-back cover. Even Chelsea could come into it, with Reece James’ injury problems.

“He can play at right and left-back, which would be ideal with Ben Chilwell spending time on the sidelines. It wouldn’t surprise me if somebody tries to get Walker-Peters before the end of the window.”

Reece James is still set for a number of months on the sideline after undergoing surgery on his hamstring.

This has led to a large amount of responsibility placed on Malo Gusto’s shoulders for the foreseeable future, which is always going to be a risk.

However, the Frenchman has shown that he can do a good job in replacing the captain’s attacking threat, whilst also looking solid at his defensive duties.
