“It was tough, I was pushed – Tammy Abraham sends massive message to Tuchel after Mourinho get him back to his best
Former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham scored a hat-trick in Chelsea’s FA Cup win over Luton in late January, Frank Lampard’s last game in charge of the Blues, but struggled to get game time following the appointment of Thomas Tuchel as Chelsea boss.
Tuchel used Abraham in only seven games, starting him only three times in the Premier League and substituting him at half-time in two of them. In the other, Abraham limped off after 20 minutes.
Abraham wasn’t even named in the match-day squad for the FA Cup final and Champions League final.
Abraham has revealed he couldn’t understand why Tuchel didn’t play him especially after scoring a hat-trick in Lampard’s last game in charge of Chelsea.
“It was tough,” Abraham told The Guardian. “I didn’t really understand it back then.
“I was scoring goals, I came off the back of a hat-trick and, of course, when a new manager comes in things change.
“I think things like this need to happen to you for you to really realise what the game’s about. You can’t always be on the up. You need some downs sometimes and those downs have really lifted me and pushed me to be hungry for more.”
