“It will turn us into title contenders next season if we sign these two players” – Mauricio Pochettino tells Chelsea fans

According to latest reports, Mauricio Pochettino believes he could turn Chelsea into title challengers again next season amid positive talks with Chelsea over the manager job, according to journalist Alex Crook.

It is obvious that Chelsea have significantly underperformed given the talents they have at their disposal this season.

This group of players should be competing for Champions League spots instead of sitting 11th in the Premier League table.

According to Crook, however, Pochettino, who is now the leading candidate to be the next Chelsea manager, is convinced that this team could aim even higher.

The Argentine reportedly believes that the only things missing are two players in two positions.

“Not done yet is the message we’re getting out of Stamford Bridge, but talks are certainly advancing,” Crook told talkSPORT when asked about how close Pochettino is to becoming the next Chelsea manager.

“Pochettino made it clear that he fancies the job.

“He actually doesn’t think that Chelsea are far away from being serious challengers despite their poor season.

“If they can get a top-class centre-forward and maybe a goalkeeper, he could turn them into contenders next season.”

A recent report from the Guardian, Chelsea are now close to agreeing a deal with Pochettino, so if it goes well, we will see whether this Chelsea team can perform consistently to challenge for the league title.

On paper, if Chelsea can significantly improve their conversion rate up front, this should arguably be a feasible target.

Bear in mind that despite the abysmal season, Chelsea have created the second-most big chances (81) in the league, behind only Manchester City (per Opta).

While defensively, the Blues have conceded the third-fewest goals in the league this term.
