Journalist ‘Blames’ FA for choosing Manchester based centre referee and VAR ref for Manchester United clash

Centre referee Anthony Taylor and video assistant referee Chris Kavanagh had a game to forget at Stamford Bridge on Monday night, as some of their decisions ruined the game for Chelsea against Manchester United at the Bridge.

Firstly, Manchester United captain Harry Maguire should have been sent off for his lunge on Michy Batshuayi, and he went on to score the second goal for United. Also, the goal scored by Kurt Zouma should have stood as well, but the VAR ref decided not to award it.

Former Sky Sports presenter Richard Keys believes that Premier League officials were “asking for trouble” by appointing Manchester-based referees in Manchester United’s 2-0 win away at Chelsea on Monday night.

Both referees are from Manchester, and Keys believe they shouldn’t have been appointed to take charge of these games.

He posted on Twitter: “Not for a minute am I questioning the integrity of the guys involved but – Antony Taylor is from Manchester (Altrincham fan) & so is Chris Kavanagh who had a shocker in VAR last night.

“Why do the PGMOL insist on making these appts? Is there nobody else? It’s asking for trouble.”

Frank Lampard also maintained in his post-match interview that the officiating ruined his side’s chances of winning the game.

“Harry Maguire should have been sent off, that’s clear, and that obviously changes the game,” he said.

“Azpilicueta gets shoved so the goal should stand. I don’t get why they aren’t looking at the [pitchside) monitor. It should be used.”
