Just In: Chelsea eyeing move for £54.4m-rated South American forward

Chelsea are reportedly monitoring forward Mauro Icardi’s situation at Paris Saint-Germain as the club weigh up a summer transfer.

Icardi, who is owned by Inter Milan, sign for PSG on an initial loan deal last summer and the French giants have the option to make the move permanent for around £54.4m.

However, the Argentine striker would have to ‘endorse’ the move and the Blues are among the teams considering an official approach if the transfer falls through.

Icardi and agent and wife Wanda Nara reportedly would not be against going back to Italy but a return to Nerazurri looks unlikely.

In an interview with Chi magazine, Wanda admitted: “I don’t know if next year we will live in Milan or Paris. In football you never know what will happen.”

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Blues are said to have taken note of the star’s situation, with Real Madrid and Juventus also keeping tabs on developments.

Icardi has been in superb form in the French capital, with 19 goals in 28 games this season.

But he was left on the bench in his side’s first leg defeat to Borussia Dortmund in the UCL last-16 and that decision could force him to rethink his long-term future at the Parc des Princes.

Reports suggest the Parisians are almost certain to activate their option to buy Icardi, with the player seen by sporting director Leonardo as the long-term replacement for Uruguayan star Edinson Cavani, who looks set to leave the French side when his deal runs out this summer.
