Chelsea are still trying to convince Napoli to let Dries Mertens go, according to ESPN. The striker himself is believed to be keen on moving to Stamford Bridge, however, the negotiations between the clubs are going slowly.
Gli Azzurri have rejected the Blues’ first bid of €7m for the Belgian. Marina Granovskaia, who is leading the chase for the 32-year-old, is expected to make an improved offer of €10m on Friday.
The Serie A side have told that they are not going to part ways with Mertens at the moment despite his contract running out in June 2020.
However, it won’t stop the Blues from making one last offer for the striker.
Dries joined Napoli in summer 2013 in a €9.5m deal from PSV. The current campaign is the attacker’s 7th with Gli Azzurri.
All in all, Mertens has made 304 appearances for the club, scoring 118 goals, providing 71 assists and winning 2 trophies.
This term, the Belgian has taken part in 22 games across all competitions so far, scored 9 goals and registered 4 assists, which includes 5 goals and an assist in 6 Champions League matches.
