Just in: Premier League confirms the matches that won’t hold this weekend after latest development
A new wave of coronavirus is threatening to disrupt the Premier League season, with many teams affected by the outbreak.
However, with this outbreak, the Premier League has confirmed that four more matches will not hold this weekend amid coronavirus outbreaks.
The Premier League has confirmed that three Premier games on Saturday, and one league game on Sunday won’t hold.
These are four games: Southampton v Brentford, Watford v Crystal Palace and West Ham v Norwich, and Sunday’s match Everton vs Leicester City.
Manchester United’s game against Brighton on Saturday has also been called off.
So far only two Premier League games on Saturday will hold – Aston Villa v Burnley and Leeds v Arsenal.
On Sunday; Wolves v Chelsea, Newcastle v Manchester City and Tottenham v Liverpool will also hold, as things stand.
A statement from the Premier League read: “The League understands fans will be disappointed these games have had to be postponed and apologises for the inconvenience and disruption caused.
“All other fixtures due to be played this weekend are currently scheduled to proceed as planned.
“The Board has agreed to postpone the matches after assessing individual club requests this evening.
“Brentford FC have an ongoing COVID-19 outbreak. This has resulted in their training ground being closed which means they are unable to prepare for Saturday’s game.
“Watford FC also continue to have an ongoing outbreak, resulting in their training ground being closed, and have an insufficient number of players available to fulfil their match.
“Norwich City FC have an insufficient number of players available to fulfil their match due to COVID-19, injuries and other illnesses.
“Leicester City FC have a COVID-19 outbreak within the squad which has left the club with an insufficient number of players available to fulfil the game. The club’s first team training ground was closed this morning to help contain the outbreak.”
