Klopp: Liverpool would have sign Jorginho in summer 2018

According to the Athletic, Chelsea and Manchester City were not the only teams who mulled over a move for then-Napoli midfielder Jorginho in summer 2018.

Liverpool, fresh from the Champions League final defeat from Real Madrid, were looking to bolster their squad, and the Italy international was one of the options.

They also were monitoring Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira and Monaco’s Fabinho. Eventually, they made an offer to the French club, and the Brazilian joined the Reds for £43.7m.

As the source reports, the reason for that was Fabinho’s stature: at 6ft 2ins, he was an imposing presence Liverpool needed.

By comparison, Jorginho stands 5ft 11ns, while Torreira is the shortest of all at 5ft 6ins.

The other two midfielders also moved to England that summer. Torreira joined Arsenal and despite impressive performances cannot be named a constant presence in the starting XI.

Jorginho, meanwhile, preferred Chelsea to Manchester City and was instrumental for Maurizio Sarri’s team. Though his place under Frank Lampard was questioned, Jorginho has started every game under the new boss so far.

If you had the opportunity to choose between the three, who would be your pick?
