Lampard confirms some Chelsea stars maybe be rested ahead of Rennes clash
Chelsea defeated Rennes 3-0 last time out, and the Blues top the group with 7 points, same as Spanish side Sevilla.
A win for Chelsea against Rennes could confirm Chelsea’s passage to the next round of the Champions League.
Speaking ahead of the Rennes game, Lampard has admitted that he is pleased with such an opportunity, and he’s looking forward to be able to rest and rotate his players, with a hectic fixture schedule from now till the end of December.
“I’ve looked at the schedule through December and it’s brutal,” Lampard said.
“We’re due to play Arsenal on Boxing Day and then Aston Villa two days later. If we were to make it into the next round, it would be an opportunity to look at players who need minutes, or rest players.”
Meanwhile, after playing Rennes, the Blues will play host to Tottenham on Sunday, before facing Sevilla away from home – a game that could decide who tops the Champions League group E table.
